    Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the service conditions we recommend a spark test and visual inspection every 2-4 years of the rubber lining. The older the lining is we might
recommend 1–2 year inspection intervals. The only exception would be tank trailers; they need to have their lining inspected annually per DOT regulations.
Yes, we do recommend using gaskets between rubber lined flanges and valves, fittings, and blinds for a better seal and prevent damage to the rubber lining. For example, Teflon lined valves tend to cut into rubber lined flange’s which leads to repairs. Depending on the service conditions we would recommend either Teflon, Viton, Buna, etc. and a thickness of 3/16”.
There are so many factors that can affect the life of a rubber lining, but they can range from 5 years to as much as 30 years.
Though we all wish there were a “one size fits all” rubber lining that’s just not the case. So here are some service conditions to consider: the concentration of the chemical(s), temperatures range, any sudden drop/rise of the temp’s, pH, exposure to UV, any solids present, any kind of agitation etc.
Getting your equipment inspected can ensure that rubber lining is working as it should be and if there are any defects, we can fix them before they get even worse and ruin the lining, substrate, or both.
Yes, but first it will be necessary to make entry, locate the area where metal work will take place and remove an area larger than the actual steel repair to prevent rubber from catching on fire and ruining any more rubber than necessary. We highly recommended before any hot work begins that the area next to the steel repair and floor of the vessel be protected from sparks with fire blankets.
Yes, we recommend mixing water and talcum powder to form a paste and apply to all mating surfaces. This will help prevent sticking and help ease the breakdown of rubber lined flanges, valves, pipes, etc.
